Unhappy James Garner 1928-2014

James Garner has died at age 86. Whether you remember him as Brett Maverick or Jim Rockford, we've lost a great actor, a racer, and a fellow gearhead.

R.I.P.

RIP Jim G

I enjoyed that show as a kid, and the plain jane firebirds still rocks as a favorite tv car of all time.
Also The Notebook movie was one of my favorite performances by James too, despite it beijg a chick flick , it was good.

From earlier movies like The Great Escape to later ones such as Space Cowboys, he always played his character well. RIP.

And don't forget the John Frankenheimer film "Grand Prix" which is still the movie that all films about racing have tried to emulate.

I liked it much more back in 1966 than Winning in 1969 with Paul Newman

While it was mentioned in this thread, his years as Maverick didn't receive due credit in my opinion. then it dawned on me those of us old enough to remember that era, just don't seem able to.......

Thanks for doing this. I met him at an IMSA event in the late 70s, when I was a wide-eyed teen, but it was cool as hell that he was there, in the pits (not the full riff-raff, if IMSA even ever had that). Class act, and a car guy. They don't make 'em like that any more.

I know that's classic cliche', but it's true. I think he and Paul Newman were the last two Hollywood people who had any clue about racing, cars, or anything outside-their-Hollywood-bubble.
