If you want to do the headlights right I'd wait for someone to come out with some tinted or black housings rather than tinting them. Yes it would be more expensive and most people will probably say you can get the same effect by just tinting them, and yes, but tinted/black housing won't cut down on the light output at night, it won't be illegal, and if you ever get in an accident, your insurance company won't be able to deny your claim on the basis that you couldn't properly see because you had an illegal tint. Trust me it's happened.

My mindset is that if you are going to do it, do it right. Don't make something work, spend the time and money to make it look good.

Found what I am looking for

I think I found what I am looking for. This is what I was referring to when I was looking for a smoked/darkened headlight housing.

Looking at http://www.gmpartsdirect.com I think the part numbers are as follows:

Left side headlamp part # 15943816
Right side headlamp part # 15943817

I filled out a request at GMPartsDirect and I will check with my dealer to see if they are available. I think they are a nice touch on a Black HHR

I think these are the headlamps that were offered on the Fall Edition HHR. Here's a comparison of Regular HHR to Fall Edition HHR
