So rocking in a chair on the porch is excitement in Enid? I guess getting a ticket for doing it was even more exciting. So how many trailers with old cars in the yard are there in Enid?
People want "zero tolerance" laws so they don't have to make a decision on whether something is justified or not. What a sad state we're in!

we too have a front porch, and being disabled myself, I to like to sit on
the front porch and "watch the world go by". That being said..there are
appropriate types of furniture to have on a porch, and upholstered is not
one of them. No matter how 'covered' it is they still get wet when the
rain comes in sideways on the wind, and once wet there is no drying them.
Not to mention how much the mice just love it when you put a
mouse-condo out for them.
Living in a neighborhood of 'porched' house's, there is unwritten law
in our neighborhood that couches, lay-z-boys and the like are a no-no.
it just looks trashy, and NO we dont live in "Gingerbread Land" were
there are yard police.
I can see where the city might be coming from in enforcing the
"Porch-Police" laws. i\Ive seen where the recliner/couch start out
on the porch, moves out into the yard, and then somehow
ends up sitting in the 'vacant lot' down the block.
Putting a couch/recliner on a front porch is akin to putting
a claw foot tub or a toilet in your yard and calling it a planter.
And we've all seen how attractive that looks!
If I've offended anyone, I'm sorry. But using 'disabled' as an excuse
for having bad taste is no excuse. being on fixed income makes
me try that much harder to make my home look presentable both
inside and outside.

Cops/Police just wanting to meet their quota for the month especially given we only have 3 months till the year is up.. Im sure their bonuses depend on quota's

Okay.. I was reading an article in my local newspaper about how the police are not "out to get us." It had direct quotes from our police chief about how there is no "quota system" but police are still judged on performance logs.
Even though there is no official "quota" according to our chief, if the officers are still evaluated using these performance logs, isn't that their motivation to issue more fines if they know they could lose their job because of no evidence of their work? I've also noticed here that it seems like the cops are pretty docile most of the time, but then they all seem to start cracking down at the same time, and only for about a few days to a week.

I have to agree with that. There is appropiate furntiture for outside on the porch, and then there is not. And claiming that your disabillity prevents you from useing something other than indoor furniture. I am also disabled, I have 5 bad disc in my lower back, and arthritis in both knees, and lower back, I still sit on my front porch and manage very well on the swing.

i guarantee code compliance had cited or warned the man for a long period of time. just happens someone finally did what they had to.
i deal with issues very similar to this on a daily basis and something as ridiculous as this eventually warrants police help. some people just dont get it thru their thick skulls. a cushioned seat in an open environment is a health hazard

I was fined for putting out may garbage when the city passed a new ordinance saying I could only put it out after 8 Am the morning of pickup.
I usually place it out side late the nigh before.
They suddenly descended with a $60.00 fine and offered to arrest me because I was non too happy with the sudden swoop and all. No warning, just boom, fined.
They should send out notices and alert folks when an ordinance is changed, like in my case. Powers changed the ordinance and only placed the info on an interior page of the newspaper. Not exactly telling the community in a proper way like sending out a notice would have.
So I counter your " guarantee code compliance had..." theory with facts like, no, not always. Sometimes the agents of social control just swoop because they can and without warning.
With all that said, I forwarded the rocking chair piece to MSNBC' Countdown to see if it is the kind of fluff piece they felt they could use in the back end of their show. You never know.
If the rocker was a festering piece of public menace, I'd like to know. I mean these things can get out of hand. I even hate sitting on a cushion made for lawn furniture, that has been out side, and smelly water oozzes out and down your leg
But it is a redneck right to put interior furniture on your front porch and yard. Ask Jeff Foxworthy........
