Low Volt sales
#21
But in areas (like here in Quebec) where the temperature is very cold, people dont think the battery will last a long time. So, people are scared ****less, just to think about battery maintenance. Replacing the battery in a Volt, will cost a bunch , and this kills the resale value of the car IMHO.

There is no such thing as "running green". The tailpipe emissions that do not come out of a hybrid vehicle have already come out of the exhaust stacks of all of the mining, manufacturing, and electrical generating apparatus that went into the fabrication of the batteries. Why do you think it costs so much to build a hybrid vehicle? When you buy a hybrid or electric vehicle, all you are doing is paying up front and transferring the pollution elsewhere.
Same goes for the manufacturing of GAS though too so who knows how much is one vs the other. Refineries do not produce the best smells in the world if you know what I mean. Then there is the delivering of oil via boats that are helping to pollute the oceans. Then there is all the diesel fuel that has to be produced as well that is getting used up by all the gas being delivered to the pumps. Diesel burns cleaner then gas so atleast that side of it is a wash. I am sure there is more too.
This just makes me wonder even more which is the best route.
Something else to add to your side of the discussion is that with the higher use of electricity for going to electric cars will put much more strain on the power plants we currently have. Those that live in New York and Cali know very well about rolling blackouts. Not too mention but our Power people SRP CLAIMS that the higher demand in the summer months COSTS them more to produce. While I am sure it does cost more to make MORE I would think that cost would be negated by the PAYING for that extra electricity that WE the consumer pay for it when we use it. SRP makes it sound like it is an exponential rise in production cost. So this would suggest that we would be paying higher electric rates as the usage went up.

IMHO, the price of electricity to supply an electric car is not much of an argument. Electricity is easily produced...after all....we use domestic coal for the most part!
Even though the Volt is a dismal failure, GM still spends millions on advertising it. that is not a business decision because it makes no sense!
Now Obama wants to increase the subsidy to $10,000 and available at the time of purchase instead of waiting on a 'rebate check'. Of course Obama has no business sense either!
