Major Problems with Cobalt Steering?

Just saw CNN Ticker stating that some govt. agency was looking into problems with the Cobalt's Steering. Anybody having any problems or can someone shed some light on this news flash?

Here is what I found while searching the internet:

Chevy Cobalt Power Steering Problems Investigated
Jasmine Kripalani
WASHINGTON (CBS4)

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received nearly 1,200 complaints against the Chevrolet Cobalt's electric power steering.

Of the complaints, 11 have caused accidents and one injury.

The result of these complaints has led federal regulators to launch an investigation focusing on the Chevrolet Cobalt's power steering system failures and whether they make it more difficult to control the car.

The initial review looks at 905,000 Cobalts with models made from 2005 to 2009.

Most of the complaints have come in the past six months and drivers said they couldn't stay in their lanes and found it increasingly difficult to steer.

In a statement, General Motors – the company that makes the cars – said it will answer questions from NHTSA and once that's done the case will either be closed or move to an engineering analysis.

They're just trying to dig up anything to keep Toyota from being the bad guy...it's a distraction!

From my understanding, the HHR has a more "robust" electric motor and is not affected. I have even heard from racers that are looking into the overheating motors and they were told to use HHR motors.

Guess we will just have to wait and see.

My wife has a Cobalt LT and we haven't noticed any issues like this, will be watching more closely now for sure.

It's a minor issue at best. I've heard zero complaints, and we have thousands of Cobalt customers.
