maybe the high unemployment rate has something to do with it? I mean if there is no jobs, people have to make money somehow. selling drugs is one of the easiest way to make money.... ask the pharmaceutical companies....selling drug equals high crime rates

None in Texas either way (safe or dangerous). I like St. Louis too, but I wouldn't stray across the Mo. River.

You must be talking about East St. Louis.

I was really surprised that Jacksonville., FL didn't make the top five.

Not surprising, though. That said, I still spend some time in both #1 and #2 for various activities - some work, and some fun. You need to know where you are going, and pretty much "do what you are supposed to do".

People that hang out for long periods of time outdoors there are nuts, although I know people that fish in the Flint River, spending the day there, and people that bike down into Detroit from the northern suburbs for an afternoon. I don't think I would do either one. However, these places are very different from about 10PM to 4AM than they are during the day. Street activity is much less, but the people that ARE out have no fear of anything.

I'm from St. Louis and East St. Louis is not that bad it's mostly burned out houses. Washington park has the most crime, but that area is not that big.
