WOW, so many problems here. Had a local lot do something similiar, selling vehicles they didn't own. THey had a "finance" company working with them. Buyers could not get tags. Most lost their $$$ and the lot "owners" took off.
I'm guessing there is no bill of sale when it was purchased? That alone should get you a tag I would think.
I suggest contacting the local news and tell them the story. Might be shocked who else comes forward with a story from them.
Get a lawyer, stop driving it, get those tags off. This may very well be a stolen truck. Loosing a job is better than going to jail (which you will loose your job).

Sorry to say 1151, but our contact in your area has let us down and I'm irritated to say the very least, more like royally pissed. We're still working to find someone in your area if you end up needing them. Keep us in the loop as to how you guys made out this morning with the car lot. Not something I talk about much 1151, I don't actively practice law anymore but I keep my license up to date. I just can't give more than very general legal advice because of where I'm licensed and the penalties involved if I act as legal consul outside the state of North Carolina. We are both former prosecutors so when you get closer to choosing where you're going to enter the police force, we probably have contacts that can help you along.

No, she never did. Now, come to find out, there IS an investigation out on this seller not even initiated by my girlfriend. The guy's been out of business for 2 weeks.. 843. Private message me your thoughts please.
