Lone Ranger you are so right, When you say that They've definitely got $2000 of wiggle room in an '07 HHR. With a MSRP over 23K money is in the option list on the sticker. The more options, More money in the dealers side.

500 for a 2000 Mustang? Are they nutz? I got 700 for a clapped out 95 Escort with no muffler when I got my HHR.

My friend has been shopping around for a new car as well.He has an old 95 chevy pickup, high miles,no AC,paint job is shot to heck, rust, messed up interior...
They offered him $1,000.00!
This dealership yesterday is nuts .That was an insult!I expected to be low balled but give me a break...
On to the next wolf....

I have been contacted by a dealer offering me $1500.00 for the Stang. His price is $19,573.53.Not a bad price, however, there are a lot of "estimated costs) in his detailed sheet. This needs to be clarified before I even go down there.

Vehicle Price: $21,390.00
Preferred Customer Discount: - $395.00
Customer Rebate: - $2,000.00
Selling Price: $18,995.00

Trade-in Value: - $1,500.00
Difference: $17,495.00
Sales Tax (estimate): + $1,231.03
Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $240.00
Tire/Battery/MVWEA: + $8.50
Documentation Fee: + $599.00 <----- WTF? That needs to go away!

It's hard to get out of the doc fees but 599 is a little high. I did have to pay 499.

Stick to your guns on the $2500 trade allowance, and demand the doc fee be reduced to less than half that. It may vary by state, but my dealer only charged a doc fee of seventy one ($71) dollars.

If this is their first offer, its got excess money on their side. First offers always do. But it appears they are more reasonable from the get-go than the joint that offered you only $500 trade allowance. Just for that reason alone, I would be more inclined to give my business to this place that just emailed you... that's just me though.

P.S. If $21,390 is MSRP sticker on the HHR, then they can definitely put more money on your side. I would say $2500 trade allowance, waive the doc fee, and discount the sales price another $500 off. Their holdback on that car would be $641.70. They still make holdback even if they sell @ invoice. Trade-ins always make it dicey... high mileage trades even more so, though, so work the best deal you can. The $500 add'l discount may not happen but definitely I would demand the $2500 trade allowance plus waive the doc fee.

Thanx lone Ranger....,more fire for my cannons! You all have been very helpful.
I am holding out for the $2500.00. I have already made up my mind not to take anything less.Waiving the doc fee is another target I am aiming for.
The closer it gets to Sept the better the deals are getting.Especially with the SS version coming out. They are gonna want to make room for the new-borns!
Yep...I am definitely working it....

OK...I am headed to some dealers this weekend.
I was quoted an internet price of $19,063.00 at 2 dealers. That does not reflect a trade.
Wish me luck!

Thanx...Yes,it can be a pain in the butt!
Well,I just got off the phone with a dealer to whom I sent a competitor's quote to (the ones mentioned in my last post). This dealer had already quoted me a trade in price of $1500.00 for my Stang (site unseen, mind you).Well,he agreed to matching the competitor $19,063.00 offer. So,with another $1500.00 for the trade makes it $17,563.00 I am gonna push for $2,500.00 for the trade though.I need to keep my payments at about $350.00. per month for a 4 year loan.I will ask for the doc fee to be reduced as well.
If they can put me into this HHR Cappuccino Frost for the above terms,I will be driving a new car this weekend.
here we go again!
The good thing is that I have 2 other dealers with the $19,063.00 tag that have not made me an offer on the Stang. So,I have a back up plan.
The back-up to the back up is to go for a regular LT withpout the Cappuccino options.Still, my deal for the trade is pretty much set in stone.
