"My thought on the Vette is that he could have bought a fiberglass body for that ride. It looks great but why kill an original car when there is another option to get the same thing? Either way it is fiberglass. The new ones have to be better quality than a 50 year old one. I have seen some of the 50s Vette and T-Bird kits and they are near perfect."

Yeah, my thought too, but the car had gone through many iterations over the years he had it and so it was logical to keep taking it further. I originally bought my '64 to hotrod, but once I figured out it was a true "numbers matching" (although not particularly rare) car I left it alone other than all new suspension bushings, shocks, and brakes. So I likely would have left the '54 alone too.

Just acquired and put an OEM fuel pump in the SD, started on the first crank after sitting for 4 months, and idles like sewing machine. Think I'll just enjoy it as is for a while. And I won't do this..........http://www.bild.de/BILD/news/2010/06...n-strasse.html

12 cylinder Allison would fit under the hood, right?

Actually, no. This is actually a nice size and one of the smallest RR built. So the straight 6 is a pretty snug fit. Longer than the HHR, but not much wider and only weighs about 3400 lbs thanks in part to a lot of aluminum.

Aluminum (Aluminium) = hood (bonnet), trunk lid (boot), trans (GM designed but RR aluminium case with PTO for brake booster), fuel tank, shock bodies, misc brackets and engine parts including head, valve cover, intake, oil pan. Claimed dry weight = 3110 lbs, and I weighed it close to 3400 lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel.

if you're Jay Z, yeah. It's kind of like painting sunglasses on the Mona Lisa.
