new (old) Cadillac

well i saw a 1996 cadillac Deville for sale for 2,300 dollars and made the purchase. Northstar V8 with 180,000. I have always wanted a Caddy but could never manage the new price. Hopefully the northstar has lots of life left in her. Anybody got one of these Caddy cars? I have read alot of complaints about excessive oil consumption hopefully i dont see it .

Nice car , My dad had one. Repairs are pricey.

I'm waiting to find a 98 Mark VIII LCS with similar miles and price.

My daughter drives a '91 Seville with 64000 miles on it and it runs just great. I have owned an '88 and a '92 Fleetwood and loved them. I just got rid of my Northstar powered Oldsmobile Aurora and it was a great engine with excellent gas mileage. Never had a bit of problems with it and sold it with 100,000+ miles. Enjoy!

I had a '96 Seville, loved it! Usually the head gasket or oil leak probs will show up by 80-100k. You should be good.

could be a nice car. As RandyW said oil leak problems sometimes arise. This car has a two piece oil pan gasket and the engine needs to come out to fix it. If you have no oil leaks now, make sure you use high mileage oil because it has a seal conditioner in it to help keep the seals and gaskets from getting hard. If you have a head gasket problem, as some do--get rid of the car at that time because the threads holding the cylinder heads on have a strong tendency to strip out when removing the old head bolts and/or when reinstalling new head bolts. good luck with your new purchase.

A friend of mine owns a dealership and they figured a way to do the oil pan without taking the engine out or even loosening the mounts, took some time and special tools, but was a hell of a lot cheaper and easier than the recommended way. A few of the early NorthStars had problems with leaks between the two halves of the crankcase but it's rare and mostly gone by '96. For a little fun, put the lever in 3 instead of drive, it's like the I position in our HHR's. It holds the gears to redline and shifts firm enough to bark second gear.

There is a lady here selling a 2000 Escalade for 4 grand,, same mileage. I was thinking about it my self.

Pays 25 hours I believe to reseal one. Thats $2500 in just labor.
