Wonder whose at the other end of the webcam watching virtually thousands of inspections per day to pick out violations? If the state is looking for another way to make money on inspections, it seems that they'll be spending more just to monitor it. But what else is new?

While I have no knowledge of this program other than what I've read here. I would imagine a system like this would archive inspection videos rather than depend on live viewing of all inspections and in turn be used to prosecute should the vehicle later prove to fail inspection. Those that implement such system in all likelihood would believe the threat of something coming back to possibly haunt an inspection station would in itself act as deterrent to wrongdoing.

While we've all be taught the often meaningless phrase innocent untill proven guilty, they've neglected to also tell us society is being engineered by program mandates for self implication.

Interesting. According what I was able to dig up, the web camera, the NY "DMV says it has not made a decision on what function the Web Camera will play". I can't find anything that specifically says someone will be actively monitoring the inspections. That's the reason that states have moved inspections to private shops, so they don't have to employ anyone to do it.

What I could see them doing is to simply capturing the feed then randomly reviewing inspections to ensure compliance.

That seems much more logical...If he did get caught passing a "failing" vehicle, it would suck, but what are the chances???

Well shoot Doc, could have saved me a phone call, but thanks for digging deeper!

Looked up an old mechanic friend up in Buffalo, and that's what he's been told. The camera will capture things that may or may not be reviewed by the state, if they see a problem then they'll step in.

It's less "1984's Big Brother", and more aimed at cracking down on "Lick 'Em & Stick 'Em" inspection stations that are comitting fraudulent safety and emissions checks.

In VA, I know for a fact that the State Police drive decoy cars into shops for inspections. I have been present when the car in front of me turned out to be the "inspection inspector". The guy was doing the job right and got a "OK" ticket, The guy down the street got a "cease" order and a summons.

badassbowtie......

He was working at Dunn Tire on Hertel Ave. But he left to start up his own shop, he's finding out that's going to take a ton of money, so he probably won't be open for business until after the holidays.

I can call him tomorrow and get a recommendation on who you can talk to at Dunn's or where he'd recommend getting your inspection done.
