The new direction Car Companies, are targeting is Cross-Overs, which HHR is, SUV traits on a car platform (better handleing, better MPG).
Ford is releasing a new vehicle next year 2009 Model, the Flex, some retro styling, that roof, you all have mentioned, etc.....

As as far the PT, going bye-bye, it probaly has ran its course for the company.
One other reason, I am glad to see Chevy, release more options of the HHR (Panel, SS, maybe the semi-panel), which I know customizing auto people like, options, maybe our vehicle will reamin strong for Chevy!!!

Referring backwards to another comment, I'm surprised that the PT had even higher window ledges!! If I had any complaint about my HHR, it's that I can't rest my arm on the window ledge. TOO high, too narrow, and too hard.
Drove in a PT a month ago and I felt like my face was smashed against the front windshield. icky.
I'm sorry to see them go, though - their owners are RABID about their babies. Those clubs will probably go on and on as long as the cars hold out.
