I live in central area of San Diego, most of the fires are still in outlying areas, but seem to be getting closer, over 300,000 evacuaees so far, families, pets and horses, Del Mar Fairgrounds is one evacuation point for ppl with large animals, but now it is also in the path of one of the fires. Firefighters are predicting some fires to reach the coastline before they can contain it.

Looks like the winds have stopped here in Irvine--this campus is as close as 10-15 miles from the Santiago fires. Our sister campus, UC San Diego is closed today...I gotta check on friends in Vista (SD county) and Valencia (Magic Mtn. area). No containment seen any time soon.

I'm in Mira Mesa just south of the evacuation zone. We're packed and ready just in case the winds pickup. I'm not too worried as the fire would have to jump Penosquitos canyon preserve to get at the family home. Air Quality around here sucks. Right now my eyes are burning from the soot in the air.

Here's a link to some maps showing excellent detail of the fires and evacuation zones. Go to news release window and click on the 0530 countywide fire map link. Warning: even with a fast connection, it may take a while to load.

Has anyone heard from ng8650? I think he lives in the San Diego, or at least close since he is a chargers season ticket holder.

I know that AZ. has sent or is sending some firefithers over to help out.

I think he lives in Temecula, Riverside County, which is way north of the Witch Creek Fire. Even so With road closures and fires here in SD and up in San Bernadino, I'm sure Traffic snarl's are pretty bad. Down here just south of the Evac zone, traffic is pretty light, which means people are listening to officials to keep the major arteries clear for Emergency traffic.

Listening to the news ..There are now a total of 8000 firefighters on the front line fighting fires, with calls out for additional Mutual Aid.

NG is o.k. for now... Like Grumpee mentioned I live just north of San Diego in Riverside County (Murrieta). I have to commute to work in Northern San Diego and that was very interesting today...

Driving through Fallbrook was like driving through a huge ashtray! Both sides of the I-15 have burned in Fallbrook. It's bad...smoke, ash, limited visibility, and the place is still burning.

BTW...Enjoy the Boltz this weekend at your house Dbarb! As much as I would like to see them play here this weekend, it's just not happening I just hope we have better results than when we were down there in 2003...

I received news today that blew my mind - my brother in Encinitas had been evacuated. There is no fire near them to my knowledge but I haven't located him yet to ask why. Does anyone know?

My elderly other brother lives in a little place called Aguanga, and has some elevation. He is watching flames around Palomar observatory that may be the La Jolla Indian reservation fire. He can't leave, as his access roads are closed, and this worries me because he has been life-flighted twice this year with severe medical problems.

It's the not knowing, the debris in the air, the orange sun, and the feeling I just don't want to go out of my house...
