A premium city car that doesn't have cruise control? Maybe, I haven't been in one so i wouldn't know, but that just sounds funny to me. I guess I see the purpose of these vehicles. They are perfect for single people who live in the city. My biggest complaint about them, is that, they don't get better fuel economy. I mean 50mpg is good, but you could have gotten that out of a geo metro back in the day or a vw rabit diesel. I will take the versatility of the HHR over that car any day. I average 36mpg with my HHR, and i can hall 8foot boards around, or take the whole family out, or load up the car with groceries. 50mpg doesn't sound good enough to give all that up and then pay the same amount for the car. I paid 13500 for a brand new 07 hhr LS 2 years ago, these smart cars go for the same price....just seems like a waste of money to me.
As for versatility, I agree with you. I loved my Impala, but simply had nothing good for carting around three huge dogs. Now that the HHR is also flex fuel like my Impala, I'm now back in a vehicle that suits practically all of my needs in one package, with the Isuzu picking up the slack when the stuff gets too big or nasty for the car.

2 smart?
i've seen 2 different 1s in the same part of a town i drive thru..i seen 1 today and thougth it will be called dumb car if it gets in an accident...i've seen crash test video of it , it was very impressive...but that thing still just looks like death trap to me....it think they would be great if there was a city where no one drove over 35mph.

"The vehicle is designed to achieve 40 plus mpg under normal driving conditions and current standards"
I expected mpg to be higher. My wife's '05 Beetle TDI averages 42 around town and close to 50 on the highway.

The diesel version of the Smart is still one of the most fuel efficient car in the world.

I find it funny that they are still bigger then the ones all over Europe. I would rather take my chances on my bike, thank you

There is so little left of the car to recognize, that it's hard to tell what it was. That wheel however, looks like a GM 5 spoke alloy. The 5 spoke lugs also point to domestic.
The picture simply proves that it's not really going to matter what you are in, when you end up tangling with semis.
