Go to youtube and enter smart car or smart car vs ferarri. Some guys put a Suzuki Hiabusa engine in a smart car, about 200 ponies up from 70 ponies !!!

anyhow, what do you think of these cars?
I think it is quite interesting to look at, but I don't know if I could ever drive 1!
they aren't even scheduled for a U.S. release 'til '08, but someone managed to get one a little early!

Not sure if anyone corrected you but that is most likely a grey-market smart that you saw. The windows at the rear are the tip off. So this is not someone that got a Smart "early."

That model is the 450. The new model that went on sale all over the US is the 451 and has no rear windows.

I own two of these grey market (only 1026 exist in the US) smarts and love them. They have a turbo mercedes engine while the new model (451) have a non-turbo mitsubishi engine.

You would fit in that model. You'd be even more comfortable in the new model. Again, the model you saw is one of 1026 grey-market smart fortwo 450s. The model you can buy at a dealership is the 451. The interiors are different with the 451 being more grown-up and having added 6inches to the total length of the car, allowing for more leg and cargo room.

Incidentally, one of the two grey-market 450s I own is that exact same color scheme (silver body panels / silver tridion safety cell).

How do you think people that own one get from place to place? Of course they go on the highway. Thats a rather ignorant question.

I guess they're okay if you don't have many friends or family members. I tend to always have more than 1 passenger, so something like this would never suit me.

There is a Caddy dealership here in Northern KY that has a Smart franchise, so there are several of these little beasts roaming among the normal cars here. Personally, I wouldn't drive one if it was given to me. They have always reminded me of golf carts, but I doubt you could even get a golf bag into one! One last thought..had Al Gore won the election, we would all be driving one now.
