I've owned a Suzuki Samurai for 22 years and there has been many, many times that this vehicle has proven to be too small.

A combination of not enough room for more than 4 passengers and very little cargo room if you take a trip to one of the wholesale club type shopping centers for example.

I would think that the Dumb Car would compound these short comings.

The thing that I love about the old Samuri is that it's towable on all 4 wheels behind my motorhome. (THE HHR IS ALSO FLAT TOWABLE - Another virtue).

Has anyone been in one of these? They're only a 2 seater, and as such are pretty roomy. A pretty appropriate choice for a crowded city, but not a lot else. Cant defend the price though.

Even fits easily in a London parking space.

I have had the opportunity to drive one of these on two occasions. I was very serious about buying one, but they do not come with cruise control, which is a must have in my commuting environment, and it cannot be added.

They are a quirkly little car with the manumatic transmission, but they are still a blast to drive. As to the prior posts with the heavier people worrying about fit - I'm 6'2" tall and was every bit of 250 pounds, and I could move the seat back far enough to not be able to touch the pedals. If Mercedes ever adds cruise control, I still might get one. As for the price, and comparing it to a Yaris. These cars aren't chintzmobiles like the Yaris. They are a premium city car, and well worth their asking price.

As for those commenting on losing against a crash with an 18-wheeler, unless you are driving a sherman tank to and from work, you are going to lose in such a wreck, regardless of WHAT you're driving.

A premium city car that doesn't have cruise control? Maybe, I haven't been in one so i wouldn't know, but that just sounds funny to me. I guess I see the purpose of these vehicles. They are perfect for single people who live in the city. My biggest complaint about them, is that, they don't get better fuel economy. I mean 50mpg is good, but you could have gotten that out of a geo metro back in the day or a vw rabit diesel. I will take the versatility of the HHR over that car any day. I average 36mpg with my HHR, and i can hall 8foot boards around, or take the whole family out, or load up the car with groceries. 50mpg doesn't sound good enough to give all that up and then pay the same amount for the car. I paid 13500 for a brand new 07 hhr LS 2 years ago, these smart cars go for the same price....just seems like a waste of money to me.
