Most of the serious mechanics I know are using Milwaukee Battery operated stuff. Not having air hoses is so much better.

I like plug-in stuff. Cheap, quiet, and never a dead battery, and they don’t get stolen. NiCad batteries sucked. Lithium ion batteries have changed everything. I always bought cheap crappy rechargeables, but when Lithiun Ion came along I went with Dewalt. Compressed air is expensive, but easy to make light small tools. Best to run a dryer on your compressed air.

There will always be something to add to this thread.

Since this thread started 13 years ago , there’s been improvements in battery tools, but the question was air tools , I have CP and IR and HF devices but always seem to go bracket to old school hand wrenching, to carefully disassemble to ensure no broken bolts, and much more soothing and satisfying during reassembly!

I still like my air tools.. My riding mower has 3 cutting blades, hence 3 bolts & torque to 100 ft lbs.. 2 seconds & all 3 are off, or on. I like that too.

Once every few years I use some Seafoam in the air guns to clean them out. Then back to oil.. They are getting near 30 years old.
