Tell Us About Your Very First Rock Concert
#11
Sly and The Family Stone (and others) at the Filmore West in San Francisco, 1968. My girlfriend at the time (rest her soul) bought the tickets as well as airline tickets a flew us up there for the concert. That still might be the best and biggest surprise birthday present I've ever had!

My very first rock concert was when I went and saw the Scoprions play in Nashville, TN at Bridgestone Arena on July 10th, 2010 as part of their Get your Sting and Blackout World Tour. Me and my dad went and I had an extremely awesome time. My favorite rock concert that I've been to so far was when I got to see The Who live last year as part of the Quadrophenia and More tour. Getting to see Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend live is definitely an experience I will never forget.

1st concert I remember was with my Mom, Dad & sisters, we went to the Sportatorium in Dallas to see Sonny James.
The first concert I went as a teenager was Johnnie Rivers at Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth about April 1970.

Can't remember the specific years, so I'm guessing. But I do remember the very first........
It was a Motown review when they were just starting out (their recording studio was an old house on West Grand Blvd.). The groups were....Ray Charles (head liner and not Motown), Supremes, Shirrels, Smokey, etc. I believe it was 1960 or 61, at the Michigan State Fair Coliseum.
I didn't have my license yet. One friend, who was 16, had his parents Dodge. IIRC, there was 5 of us.
Hey Boydie......a question for ya. If you can remember, back in the early 60's a local Detroit deejay (don't recall his name) was an emcee at a weekend dance and entertainment somewhere up in the Clawson, Madison Hts. area. I can't remember the name of the location, but I think it was something like "The Red Barn". Do you remember this???
Oh, and the deejay had a Vette, and one night, he ran off the road and turned upside down, pinning him inside for a number of hours because the area was dark and rural at the time....area of Northwestern Hwy. and 12 Mile. He quit the "business" right after that.
