it's hard to limit to 3, but here goes:
Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins (don't ask me why but it gets me revved up in the car)
Highway Song - Blackfoot
China Grove _Doobie Brothers (one of my all-time favorite songs)

Thumbs up

Okay, I have to divide this into two lists. Bear with me.

Top 3 INSTRUMENTAL driving songs:

3: Superman theme (John Williams) -- especially going on an on-ramp.
2: Beethoven's 9th -- sentimental favorite.
1: Tank! (Yoko Kanno) -- jazzy big-band sounding instrumental with the most testicular saxophone solo ever recorded.

Top 3 VOCAL driving songs:

3: Holding Out for a Hero (Bonnie Tyler)
2: Thunderstruck (AC/DC)
1: Bat Out of Hell (Meat Loaf)

Of course there's so many more really good pieces of music ... just about all of "Bat Out of Hell 3" is good ... an oddball one that I found was pretty good that I've had as driving music was (don't laugh) "White and Nerdy" by Weird Al Yankovic.

For all you classic rock fans with an XM radio in your HHR, tune to 46. They play only the good stuff!

You know, this should really be the three best albums instead of songs. Although, many of you have listed some great ones I've forgotten about.

Like some of the choices here, but here's a couple new ones.....

3. Hot Rod Lincoln - Commander Cody (there's actually the original from the 50's by who-knows-who, but Commander Cody's is just as good, if not better....)

2. Radar Love - Golden Earring

1. Makin' Thunderbirds - Bob Seger and the Silve Bullet Band

3 - "I Need You Tonight" ZZ Top (it's for a quiet suburban driving);

2 - "Shot Of Love" AC/DC (active, vigorous driving);

1 - "Fantom" Chizh & K (driving on the verge of foul)

Of course, I have a full discography of this artists. And many more.
Those damn CDs spinning in my car sometimes for a week.
