I destroyed numerous Made In Japan tapes when I was a teen.
Munched in tape deck, repair with scotch tape, repeat until destroyed, replace and repeat process ad nauseum...
Deep Purple, Johnny Winter, Uriah Heep, Not Fragile, Double Live Gonzo, Sabbath, Tull and Alice Cooper were always in my tape deck.

I only started collecting records again about 5-6 months ago.
I have over 700 rock, 300 classical, numerous country/western, jazz, comedy etc..
I'm already upgrading some to better condition/pressings.

Have fun with that conversion thing but you might be better off downloading from torrents.
I've done that with hundreds of titles I have on DVD, CD, records & cassette.
I own them so I can DL back up copies instead of ripping them.

Post some pix with cool covers while you're spinning 'em

Yeah I'll try and get some covers on the camera for you. Ya gotta love the artwork that went into them.

I gave up on the torrent stuff years ago when most of the stuff was poor quality, or mis-named etc.. This will be a long-term project just done when I feel like it LOL - I already have a lot of stuff on my server - over 100GB so far ~26K songs or so, mostly from CD's and from internet radio stations using Winamp and the plug-in Streamripper with works awesome for the most part.

I do love the sound of vinyl, but find I only use it when I REALLY want to seriously listen. For background at home, in the car, or on the bike, MP3's are just fine.

We'll keep plugging away at it eh?

Oh, tapes!!!!! Yeah I still have my 90 min. tapes I put together - there's a bit over 200 of them, all compiled from various albums (a song from this one, a song from that one) - I used to devote my Sunday evenings to putting together a tape a week whenever I could spare the time). But they too, are starting to deteriorate, so I use them on the bike mostly - and if they die, no big deal. Heck cars no longer come with tape decks man!!! When did that happen - I think I missed a decade somewhere along the line. :)

Cheers

Tom

Ogden's Nut Gone Flake

First time I've see someone, other than myself, mention that album. I used to have the original round cover version that folded out in 4 sections.

I still think somebody needs to re-do "Mad John" from that album..... such meaningful words.

This bring back memories for you Greybeard and whopper, you're not the only oldsters or near oldsters here...

I second your thoughts on "Mad John", but who could do it justice?

My good turntable is a Technics Sl-1700 direct drive which has served me well, running a Shure V15 type IV. Dang thing won't die.

SL-5

It's in good shape and plays but it won't move on the track.
My tech said it could be an easy fix.
I'm not too concerned because I got it for free and rarely play the Marantz.
I'll let him fix it if it's cheap but there's no hurry.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse ~ Everybody Knows This is Nowhere (1969)

I got home and the squatter, um, I mean stepson was watching a movie set in the 70s.
I sat and watched for a few then commented "That's the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath album in that box".
When I rewound to take pix and paused it I noticed he was actually looking at the first Black Sabbath album.

Careful kid, it'll rot your mind, curve your spine, and lose the war for the Allies. (GC RIP)

Lee Michaels ~ Fifth (1971)

Grateful Dead ~ Live/Dead (1969)

Ted Nugent (1975) Good hockey soundtrack
