Exclamation Wear Safety Glasses - Please!

Wear Safety Glasses - Please!

Well gang, I got lazy Friday night and decided I didn't need to "mess with the safety glasses" just to wire brush a bolt on my bench grinder. Well kids, that was a big "Dumb" on my part. If you've ever had metal fished out of your eye, I don't need to tell you it hurts like hell.

If you haven't, trust me, you don't want to go through it. So when you're working on your HHR, or anything else that might endanger the only two eyes you'll ever have, WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!

I now have an eye patch that needs changed every 12 hours or so, and a follow-up visit with the eye doctor on Monday. My vision should be fine, but I'm taking things easy, so I won't be on the forum much because reading with the "good" eye makes the injured one hurt like mad.

That being said, I'll be checking in on y'all regularly, and reading my PM's as they come in.

Your Admin is done preaching now, to everyone here, have a great night, and an even better Sunday.

Ouch! I hope they checked both eyes. I got metal fragments in my eye back in the day. The one eye hurt so bad. Doc says "lets look at the other just in case". You guessed it, frags in that one also. The pain was so intense in the one eye, nothing else hurt in my whole body! Hope you're feeling better soon!

I once got a piece of wire from a wire wheel poked into my right eye when I was about 19. I was wearing safety goggles over my glasses and I got no idea how the piece of wire managed to get in there with me I was just going to pick it out but it hurt way too much to do that.

My boss took me to ER where they did just pluck it out. I got to wear a patch for several weeks and every thing has been fine over the years.

Just a few years ago I damaged my rotator cuff. To get a good look at it they wanted to do an MRI. One of the questions was “Do you have any metal in your eyes?”. I told them when I was younger I had a piece of wire in my right eye so they had to do all kinds of tests to see if there was any more in there.

They did find some small bits in both eyes but decided nothing was big enough to cause any damage in the MRI. The first thing they did after I got out of the MRI machine was to closely examine my eyes for holes. Everything was fine.

I wear prescription glasses all the time but when I'm working with stuff that might damage my eyes I almost always put on some kind of additional eye protection. At home I have a bunch of plastic shields I wear when I'm using the grinder or wire wheel. Some are dark green and real handy when I'm brazing, I keep one right by the grinder so its almost always handy.

I have to admit that sometimes when I'm out and about I work on stuff that might get me and I don't have the safety equipment with me and I don't let it stop me, but I do tend to take extra care not to hurt myself.

Mike sorry about your mishap. I have learned that safety glasses are important the hard way myself.

Your follow up they will most likely dilate your eyes so remember to take your sunglasses with you for the ride home. I learned that the hard way also

They did check the "good" eye RJ, just to be safe, and they didn't find anything.

Yeah George I know, I really should be banned from owning or operating any sort of power tools.

Oh I'll definitely be wearing the snazzy wraparound "Florida Retiree" sunglasses they gave me there Grizzly. And I'm banned from driving until cleared, then I'll have to be checked out by a flight surgeon before I can pilot an aircraft legally.

My moment of laziness is costing me more than pain, it's a pain in the butt too.

Thanks to all of you for the well wishes, they are very much appreciated!

Спасибо за добрые мысли Андрея, это так хорошо услышать от вас снова. Как ты мой друг?

My apologies for my faulty Russian Andrey, it wasn't that accurate with both eyes working.
