When I Was In the Military, I Remember When...

Airborne OPS
Here's a video one of my buddies took during a jump. We jumped from a C-130 at 1000 feet above ground level onto Sicily dropzone at Ft. Bragg, NC.
A note of caution, minor vulgarity - I couldn't edit it out without losing the entire sound clip.

Yep, thats Me, the son of SindyDix. Dang, what a great picture. Yes I am a BIG Computer Geek. But I have had fun while in the Military. Played in the sand box for a month, floated around, drawing gridsquares on USS Duluth.
Yep, The dumbest people I have met in the Marine Corps are the ones with the College Educations. I was working on getting a SIPR computer online, so my XO could check his e-mail, because he couldn't wait 2 days.... Knowing how officers think, I selected my chair carefully, before I started working on it. Selections were, 1 short uncomfortable ladder, 1 soft padded chair. This was in the field. I picked the ladder, and worked away. Finally got it going, and what did the XO do when I told him it was ready for him, he takes my chair, the ladder, and commences to log in. Meanwhile, I kick back in the padded chair, and he says, "This thing isn't very comfortable is it?!?!?!", Leaning back and relaxing, "No it isn't sir......"
The radio watch just about hypervenalated from trying not to laugh at our idiot, that we call our leader.

I did 4 years as a U.S. Marine. (95-99) Went to boot camp @ Parris Island SC. Then to Camp Lejune NC for combat training, And then off to 29 Palms CA for communications school. After that I was stationed with the 11th Marine Regiment, the " cannon ****ers" @ Camp Pendleton CA. That is an artillery unit. Thier main objective was to put rounds down range. When I say round, I mean 155mm howitzer round. you know, pull string, big gun go boom. Our playground was the desert. Hard as I tried, I never traveled while in the Marines. After my 4 I decided the military life wasn't for me and settled here in SoCal.

3-1/2 years in US Army. 1971-1975. Ft.Jackson, Ft. Eustis, Finthen AAF Germany 2 years, Ft. Carson, Co. Was in Germany during the 72 Olympics hostage situation, and also missed going to Viet Nam by a class. Was trained on CH-47(chinook) Helicopters, was sent to Germany , was in a CH-54(Skycrane) Unit the 295th Avn Co. and assigned to the motor pool. Was excess, so had a choice to make, Mess hall, Guard gate or Motor Pool was a clerk there. Then went back to Helicopters in Colorado. Not enough reenlistment bonus, Viet Nam over so got out. The folks today are on our minds everyday serving for us, great job guys.
