Lake Erie has always been one of the most treacherous of the great lakes. I have boated on Erie for many years - we caught a LOT of walleyes, but often had to cope with seasick passengers and sometimes pulled in other boats from the 20-22 mile mark (center of shipping lanes). My 32' Wellcraft Coastal had two - 455 cu. inch engines, so had plenty of power to get in quickly in case of a storm. Many don't realize that the lake can get so rough. I have never been in 14 foot waves, but have struggled in 8-10 footers - not fun!

As to the military, I served in Japan and Korea from 1954-56 with the 308th CIC Detachment (Counter-Intelligence Corps - I was a Counter Intelligence Agent). CIC is the FBI of the U.S. Army - very interesting work and I really enjoyed it.

In Basic, at Fort Polk, LA, I had guard duty of the morgue.

It was a real dead evening...

Baggage duties...

While serving in the Army at SHAPE HQ in Mons Belguim 72-75,
I had the duty to help offload baggage from Air Force One
during the Paris Peace Talks with Nixon and Kissenger.

I hand carried Rose Mary Wood's ( The Watergate typist!)
manual typewriter to the waiting limo, a streched Linclon,
Man was it huge! The Limo, and looking back now,
so was the typo unit....

Somewhere, I still have the little security pin given for the day.

I have more "WAR" stories, but work calls and I don't wanna bore all of you...

Wow! Freaky! With the exception of New River & Miramar - that was me too.
Except I started a few years earlier...

Worked on A-2 Intruders at Millington (structural mech.), F-4 Phantoms (airframes), at El Toro, and was a crew chief on CH-46's at Tustin. (I know, I'm dating myself!)
