Actually it's a good idea to avoid any vehicle that has spent its life near the coast. Here in the Carolinas, coastal cars and trucks start looking like paper lace after 3-4 years, sea breezes and salt air are just as bad(or worse)than road salt.

I've had good luck with Arizona cars, I have a 1969 Road Runner from Flagstone, and a 1964 Fairlane from Pamona, California, both old cars when I bought them and both rust free, mind you neither one has been driven in the snow ever and not much in the rain either

I lived in Pomona, California for 19 years. Presently there is a drought but we do get rain here. I've purchased virtually every vehicle I've owned for somewhere in this general region. Pomona is 30 miles west of where I presently live. But, as Mike said, you should steer clear of California cars if they come from any of the coastal cities.

Yup, on my last trip to San Francisco in the early 2000's I saw more rolling rot boxes than I could count, that salt air eats cars alive.
