Why is insurance for a 2007 HHR almost $2000/yr.

Why is my insurance so high? I have a 2007 HHR, KBB says it is valued at about $1800. My insurance is $1920/yr. I took a look at buying a Ford Pickup truck, the insurance was about $1500/yr. I was involved in a three-car accident, about 5 years ago. The causing driver ran. I had about $1000 damage. The second cars driver tried to file a claim against my policy, I told State Farm not to pay it. To my knowledge, they did not. After all the crash was not my fault. I have not had any citations for almost 23 years.
So why does it cost $400 more to insure a car worth $1800 than it does to insure a truck worth over $40,000? The agent's response was that the truck has more safety features. WTF? It makes no sense.
Any ideas?

Just dropped full coverage on HHR, down to just liability, way to expensive for a car just worth maybe 2k. In Texas the HHR is classified a light truck making the insurance cost more than my SS Camero and more than my 4x4 suburban...crazy!

That makes sense, to drop to liability. Never understood classing the HHRs as light trucks for insurance reasons. ..

I guess the Insurance industry just classifies them the same as GM did.

C.A.F.E. The government mandates an aggregate average mileage for each class of vehicle manufactured. GM needed help in the Light Truck class, thus the HHR is a half ton light truck. The states don't necessarily go by the federal classes, it is whatever the registering agent writes on the title.

Thanks for the replies. I did talk to my insurance agent, he wasn't much help. I have shopped around, but, I have homeowners with State Farm, my house is about 70 years old and I'm having trouble finding insurance for it.
I have thought about dropping the comprehensive and collision, but I would not save that much money.
Still checking.

The insurance companies mostly rate you according to number of incidents. If you open a case, they see cost, whether they pay out or not.
What they’re allowed to do to you is mostly according to state regulations. They also take advantage of our laziness and arbitrarily raise rates knowing that you probably won’t go shopping. Go shopping.
Why pay full coverage for a $1800 car, anyway? You should only insure for risks you can’t afford to take yourself. If you have a good driving record a “liability only” policy that does nothing but meet state statutory minimums can be really cheap. I think one of my cars is just over $100 per year.
