Why is insurance for a 2007 HHR almost $2000/yr.
Why is my insurance so high? I have a 2007 HHR, KBB says it is valued at about $1800. My insurance is $1920/yr. I took a look at buying a Ford Pickup truck, the insurance was about $1500/yr. I was involved in a three-car accident, about 5 years ago. The causing driver ran. I had about $1000 damage. The second cars driver tried to file a claim against my policy, I told State Farm not to pay it. To my knowledge, they did not. After all the crash was not my fault. I have not had any citations for almost 23 years.
So why does it cost $400 more to insure a car worth $1800 than it does to insure a truck worth over $40,000? The agent's response was that the truck has more safety features. WTF? It makes no sense.
Any ideas?

Shop around for a better rate with another company. My 2010 SS is only $750 a year for full coverage here in Alabama.
I had to dump State Farm 15 years ago. They tried to charge me some astronomical sum for my homeowners coverage on my newly built house. I had been with them 25 years before that.
( My long time agent back then did get his revenge. A month later, he cancelled the policies on my 3 vehicles which they still covered at that time)

That's a question for your insurance agent. Rates are based on various factors and are different for every individual, where they live, and sometimes what block they live on in a given area, and state laws. If your insurance company paid out anything, even if not your fault, they will often still raise your rates to help recover their loss.
Short of asking your agent, as said, shop around for rates.

Here's another not spoken of factor. Your credit score.
I would do some shopping around.
64, NO tickets or accidents in the last 10 years. 06 HHR 2LT.
$65 a month $185 annually

Go with an independent agent that handles multiple companies and let them do the legwork in finding the least expensive rate.
I have found Progressive to be the least and friends that have filed claims were thrilled with them, but still use an agent to search.

FYI: Geico was originally Government Employee Insurance CO
Agreed on Shopping around..
Yes credit score is a big factor as well..
Safe (senior citizen) Driver here, great credit, garage kept & alarm. & the HHR is $130. for 6 months. Talking Full coverage & UN-insured motorist..
Talked to my agent a while back on a new Truck, it was only about $50. more per 6 months, because it has way more safety stuff in it.
Now Wifes Mopar costs a few more than my HHR, reason my Agent told me was her car is more likely to get stolen..
