A thread in another section got me thinking...How many people still have dial up? I was on dial up until about 2002 and only because Hi-speed wasn't available in my area. My brother in Florida just switched this year
When I had dial-up I didn't want busy signals on my main phone line so I paid for a second phone line. With the cost of the dial-up ISP and the second phone line it would total more than $50 a month! That's more than what I pay now for Hi-speed.
Adelphia was the first Hi-speed available in my area and I jumped on it as soon as it was offered. I got rid of that second phone line since I didn't need it anymore. Now I'm getting ready to switch to Verizon Fios (and I thought cable was fast ) which price-wise is about the same as my cable internet. If you have another type of connection please post a comment, but don't forget to participate in the poll up top

Cable for as long as I've owned a computer. I tried DSL for a couple of months because I got a good deal and it promised to be as good as cable but it wasn't. I ditched DSL after about 3 months and went back to cable. Dial up is so 1985.

I've had cable for 7 years. Trouble that the more neighbors get on board, the slower it runs. Verizon just got a license for TV from the town. They are offering FiOS for 99 bucks a month (tv, internet, phone) for a year. It's looking better than cable.

Same story almost exactly as ng8650 for our home.
I use DSL at work through our 1908 ceramic phone jack at our vintage Kresgee store location. The DSL office is 500 feet away, so few problems once it was set up.

I've had Qwest DSL powered by MSN for about 5 years when it finally became available where I lived...this is at home and it's $26.99 a month for life for 1.5 Mbps and for another $10 a month I can boost it up to 7Mbps.
Now...at my boyfriends, it's been a different story. I have a computer there and only spend 2 or 3 nights a week at his house. He doesn't use the computer, so until recently I was using NetZero Hi-Speed dialup for $14.95 a month. He's got Comcast phone service and they offered us a deal to cut his bill in half and give me their hi-speed for $19.99 a month, so we went for that and got rid of the dialup.
