The question was asked which auto part stores in CA. lend out tools?
Well I was just in a Pep Boys and on the counter was a list of all the tools they lend out for free. The list was very large. So before you rent a tool for brakes or steering wheel pully, or ball joints etc. check your nearest Pep Boys anywhere in CA.

AutoZone & Advance should also. You have to "buy" the kit then return it for a full refund. If you look hard enough on the AZ and A websites you can find their loaners, you can also do it online.

Of course you can do it the "old fashioned" way and take advantage of their no questions return policies.
