Battery

Hi,
I have a 2008 2LT with a 2.4 (54,000 miles) and automatic. The current battery is 8 years old and I’m beginning research for a new one. I live in East Texas (Tyler) where the temps are normally mild but the past few days have been abnormally cold with snow and highs in the teens and lows in single digits. I’ve started the car each day and run it to operating temp. Today, it was a little slow to start so I figure it’s battery time!
My question is this: is an AC/Delco battery from a dealer a good recommendation or a Diehard from Sears and, if so, are there any particular specs I need to be sure of for the replacement? I know our little trucklet’s can be finicky with certain things like spark plugs and thermostats!

Thanks in advance!

If you can get one locally buy a Delco with the same spec as the OEM. If not get one that is a 5 year battery that matches that spec. Me, I bought an Interstate when my 7 year old Delco was bad. Tried to buy a Delco but no one in the area sold it and the battery can't be shipped.

Personally I use the AC Delco Gold top of the line in my HHR's.
Because I am a Pro Active kinda guy I never wait for a failure on a battery. Especially on the HHR.
I think 5-6 years is a safe place to replace. I then use my old ones for small outboard electric starting motors that I work on and service. I just keep them fully charged once a month.
That being said there are several good choices out there other then the OEM Delco.

Your questions should already be answered with the service received from your Original factory battery.

P.S. Check Rock Auto for your new Delco pricing. I understand they just started carrying batteries and will ship.

Thanks, that was my thought as well, just wanted to be sure my battery wasn’t an anomaly!

Just made an appointment for Friday at my local Chevy dealer for an AC/Delco Gold battery for $130.44 plus $20.00 for installation.

That seems a fair deal and if they break the vent tube they will have to replace it....

Rock Auto may now carry batteries but it doesn't seem they have the correct size for the HHR's.

Group size 90 is the correct lead acid vented battery. The DIN spec is T5. AGM batteries have as different number, I think.
