I am sad to say it is a common thing. I suspect this caused your pulse. Too often people blame the rotor as the cause when it is the symptom.

The rotor wobbles and it wears uneven on each side, this makes the pedal pulse as it adjust to the variation in thickness.

If the the bearing is bad you will repeat this again in 8 - 10k miles.

 

i am going to pickup two bearings i assume there are in the hub? autozone wants $180 each. that sound right?

 

Actually you replace the entire hub/bearing assembly so that's what they probably quoted you on, the price sounds about right. The hub bearings aren't "user serviceable" so you change out the entire hub, its the way of the world these days.

 

Different hubs for ABS and non-ABS so make sure you get a match to your system.

Before you go tearing it appart check the play in the rotor. Also drive it and go side to side. You should hear a change in the sound.

Odds are the hub is the issue but checking one out on the web is tough. We have to rely on what you tell us since we can not get behind the wheel.

The ABS hubs have a sensor that picks up a reluctor ring. It is a plug and play deal. At lest on the one I have done. THe HHR should be similar. No plug no ABS.

Yes if your warranty is current it is covered. The dealer should take care of it. It is considered part of the drive line.

 

Sounds like the dealer is going to replace the wheel bearings under warranty.. assuming that is it.. I am going to have them check it out though. I can't imagine what else the road noise would be though.
