Same here. Just another thing to do. Never gave this a thought and still have the factory unit, but now I'm itching (no pun intended) about what this thing might look like when I remove the original.

I think the filters that you are taking out that have the grey color to them are the higher grade activated charcoal factory installed filters. The all whilte $14 filters you are installing are the cheaper filters which don't have the charcoal.

That could be. I couldn't tell WHAT color my original filter was.

My filter is brown........ some interesting 3D leaf print markings as well.
