Both were replaced. He replaced axle, then drove it, still heard the howl so he replaced driver side wheel bearing. Still can't believe it was that bearing. I would have bet my life it was the passenger side. Crazy how sound can travel with connected parts.

If the left wore out the right is not far from it. They should be done in pairs to reduce labor and angst.

The right Detroit axle can be installed, then use that new axle to replace the driver side.

Way back in post #1 he said he replaced the right side bearing a couple of months ago.

But I agree. They should always be done in pairs.

You can use a slide hammer or even a chain if you have the room to snap it out.

He means the stub shaft, no room for much more then an exhaust clamp and pry bar or vise grips and a pry bar

Those really long and thin pliers might work; one jaw in the hole.

I wrapped crocus cloth around the splines and clamped on my 10” visegrip pliers, then a quick motion with my pry bar and the stub shaft came out.
