Changed the plugs & air filter early

Did my filter change andput in new plugs yesterday even though I wasn't due until 100k miles, and I only had 92,500. The air filter was pretty easy to change, and so were the plugs! Both needed it badly too. The air filter had over 40k on it, and was pretty dirty too. I could feel a little difference in it running, and on the way to work, driving as I normally do I saw a fuel economy improvement.

I went back with the AC Delco air filter and AC Delco irridiums. I Like how well the air filter housing seals on the 2.4 and how easy those plugs were to change!

Jay-
mine came with just over 20K on it.. I yanked the plugs to inspect.
They looked fine, but gaps were all over the range.. Adjusted precisely, & re-installed.

Changed oil to M1, & checked air filter & cabin filter.. cabin filter was replaced..

My plugs were replaced at 60+K miles, just because my last car that had 100,000 mile plugs, they were shot at 60K. I'll change the air filter every couple of years, it is sort of easy. Cheap insurance to keep the car running well.

OP, you do realize that 40k miles is a ton of miles on an air filter, right?

I have to replace mine every 10-12K, or they get all crapped up. I also like to clean the intake and MAF sensor at the same time. Past cars required this, so it's now a habit...

I also used to purposely get copper plugs to keep them fresh and gapped properly, but I gave that up on this car. The old (LNF+copper plugs) = (scared me) equation.

I know it is, but the maintenance schedule states ever 50k, and since I do work with a filtration company I know that a dirty air filter is more efficient at cleaning the air than a new one, provided that you do not exceed a certain restriction on it. That's why we do not recommend changing an air filter too often or going with a high flow aftermarket filter on our diesel engines since that allows more dust through. It only takes a couple spoonfulls of dust to take one out, whether over 500 miles or 2 million miles.
