I'm not an expert, but I think you can clay right away. I know dust particles from the train brakes embed into the paint on the haul up from Mexico. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though. As far as buffing, no idea. I do it by hand, and personally I would think it would be better, but again, I'm no expert.

I just bought a 2010 HHR and the surface was very rough. I followed the tips in this thread and clay barred it and then waxed with Meguiars. It is now baby butt smooth and looks great. Thanks for the good info here!

Had my first (full) weekend home last week after 6 weeks on the road for work -- spent 3 hours clay barring and waxing my Sirius Blackie ...

i got a kit for my birthday and can't wait to use it. But the temperature spiked today and it is going to be 90 out. Add in going to see my parents next weekend and they live on a dirt road, and 6 hours of bugs each way. it'll have to wait.
