You are saying the fan was working below 200*, then shut off. Does the fan turn on now under any of the conditions that donbrew listed? Or ever?

Some background please - year and mileage and what engine.

Also why did you replace the thermostat? Was it running hot, or too cool?

Can you elaborate on how it "kinda looked like it was backing up" - what were you looking at to determine that? Was it warming up, or already warmed up? What does the temp show on the digital temp display?

Whopper.
rwatkins has his own thread in regards to the issue he's having. Check it out here: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/main...ing-fan-57374/

I think he was just checking for some alternate info by posting up in this 4 year old thread.

2008 67000 2.2 original owner i replaced the stat cause it overheated so i troubleshoot the issue when i checked the bottom hose after temp went above 195 it didn't seem very hot and was easy to squeeze like there was no hot water flowing so i figured the stat was stuck. so i replaced it. then i let it warm up and there was hot water flowing through the hose as im used to, checked the coolant and thats when i noticed that the fluid wasn't circulating like im used too in my other rides i believe the temp was near 200 when i checked it.so now im wondering if that is normal or is my pump bad, there is no noise. should i just drive it see if it happens again ? i have not had this problem with this car so im not sure of my next step.

Except for the part where you said the cooling fan shuts off at 200*, it sounds like normal operation.

When you turn on the AC(or defrost, or recirc), the cooling fan kicks on, and should stay running until the coolant temp reaches 180*. If the AC(or defrost, or recirc) is off, the cooling fan turns on at 219*, and should stay running until the coolant temp reaches 180*. Did I get that right, donbrew?

So is your cooling fan still turning off at 200*?
