Well sleeper, our minds are usually on the same wavelength on most topics, but this time I must slightly disagree with your oil change interval. If it were me I'd change it at a bare minimum of twice a year, or in your case, about every 2,500 miles. Mobil 1 is a great product and I've been a loyal user for 27 years now, but I'm concerned with the normal and unavoidable buildup of combustion byproducts in the oil. You get an increase of acidic contaminates over time, along with some entrained moisture, and I'd be concerned with letting them sit in the engine for 12 months.

843-

I appreciate your insightful input, as usual.. If I were only making short runs, (severe duty)..I would consider changing it more often. However that is not the case..

I'm also a long time user of M1, & use the "Extended Performance" M1.

ie: My '85 S-10 was at 237K & everything still original internally, (did replace the valve cover gaskets, before selling it. And it is still running good..

10-4 sleeper, just had to express my concerns and I know that you're the best judge of the duty cycles on your engine. Call me cautious at times, but taking care of equipment is something that I have always had instilled in me and its something passed down from generations past. I'm still driving my Great, Great, Grandpa's truck and I know that with proper care it will still be running for its 100th birthday.

No I appreciate it.. Since oil is the cheapest thing on/in the vehicle..

I grew up that way as well, my Father would watch me, & if I didn't check the oil on one of the Excavators or Dump Trucks, he would light into me, ASAP..

Would love to see a pic sometime of the '37 Carryall...

That's how I feel also, except I will go up to 1 year. I try to change oil at least once in the fall for vehicles that I don't drive very much, just so those acids don't sit in the engine combined with the water that the oil is going to absorb when the engine may not get hot enough to burn it off over the winter
