Exclamation disconnect the battery.

How do you disconnect the battery, I took the nut off the post but I don't know how to release the clip holding the negative post in place. Does anyone have an answer? I need an answer asap, it's my only car.

It's a 2006 HHR with the 2.2 litre engine.

I hope that the nut that you removed was actually on the battery, it lives in the rear of the car under the spare tire, not the power steering connection on the black box under the hood. I think that those post clamps are kind of easy, loosen the bolt don't remove it. It's like a lever action if I remember right.

On mine it's a simple matter of loosening the bolt, it does not "clamp", but kind of has an offset cone inside a cone sort of thing. You can loosen it to the point of tightening it. It does sit pretty tight, even after loosening, just use a pair of slip-joint pliers to twist & pull? Mine was a minor pain, but then I'm used to applying more force than seems natural.

X2. That's all I did the other day; back the nut off, twist the cable some and pull upwards.
