"Old School" was every 6000 miles when I was growing up in the 60's-70's.

I do mine every 5,000 km. and I do run synthetic, seen way too many engines with people gone over on their changes... I look at it as cheap insurance..

Once a year for me, with a filter change half-way through. I usually reset the DIC once halfway too. I run Amsoil 0W-30, anywhere from 12,000 to 16,000 miles per year. No problems

I change mine in both of our GM cars (Uplander & Vue) according to the OLM and use either Castrol or Motorcraft blend if its on sale.

Its usually somewhere between 4000-5000 miles for both of them. (I keep track)

I find it interesting that the Uplander typically does more short trips and around town driving than the Vue and that it will always say that the oil needs to be changed with less miles than the Vue. Guess that means its working correctly.

I change mine according to the DIC. I put approx 8,000-12,000 miles on it between changes.
It always comes out looking brand new +/- some darkness.

I drive 36k/yr.

I bought it 12/31/07 w/ 32,3xx miles on it. Now I have 99,100 on it(2 yrs, 3.5 months= 67k miles)

I've only done 6 oil changes(just did my 6th at 96k) so avg 10k between changes. I use the AC Delco filter/cap/o-ring kit every time, as it's only $2 more than just a filter.

I drive 130 miles a day, 5 days a week, almost all freeway, in mild climate. Hardly ever below 40 degrees out, and rarely over 95 degrees out.

I've been changing every 6-7000km (About 4,000 miles) with castrol syntec. I pretty much ignore the monitor.

My 08 SS does not get many miles - after 2.5 years it has just crossed 10K.
My Harley gets the other miles to work - even in NJ.

I ended up getting a new cam from the dealer at 1500 miles due to a defect in manufacturing of the cam. . My oil was changed and the DIC was reset at that point.

After 1 year later, - still showing about 40% life, the online onstar maintenance email started flagging me as "not having changed the oil in over a year.

I guess it is their way to make sure the sensor is alive.

BTW, My 72 Chevy Vega Wagon GT was one of my favorite cars when I purchased it from a military person being deployed overseas.
I worked for a trucking company at the time - changing oil in the fleet of tractor cabs. I always had 2-3 gallons of oil in the back seat. When I went around a corner and the oil light came on, I knew it was time to add more.
Believe it or not, I was sad to sell my favorite fun car.
I always kidded to my freinds that the US Navy wanted it. Put it on the deck of their carrier. Start it up, and the carrier would disappear in a cloud of blue smoke.

:-)

It doesn't matter to me if I only put 5 miles on my HHR in a year, the oil gets changed.

Oils don't break down, but the additives do..

My bikes get the most miles..
