The problem seems to be with the "no name" fobs that come with the programmer. Most people say a Genuine GM fob works with no errors. The programming module works with all brand fobs.

I tried 3 Dorman fobs, got the same low batt message. Got a new GM fob, works perfectly. The Dorman programmer indeed works on GM fobs.

I was emailing with Dorman, they kept telling me to get another fob through warranty. Finally got tired of it and got the GM fob.
