No. But an abnormally loud exhaust is a leak. If the leak is upstream of the O2 sensor, the computer can draw faulty conclusions about the a/f mixture. All leaks in the exhaust system are hazardous and should be fixed, but leaks upstream of the O2 sensor will cause engine problems, too.

If the leak is a broken flex pipe, you may have a bad motor mount, in case no one mentioned that yet.

I had not yet heard the concern regarding the motor mount. Once we get past our current winter weather, we will be able to get a good look at the whole exhaust system. Thanks for your help!
