Extendend Warrenty

Most of the time, I'd say leave the money in the bank. While I worked for a dealership I got the extended warranty at cost; which, with our Malibu and a zero deductible, had easily paid for itself with a few visits.
With my current HHR, I had gotten the an extension of the GM bumper to bumper certified plan and an extended powertrain plan thrown in at half of what I used to pay where I worked, and it is still with a zero deductible. I can also still cancel it an get a pro-rated refund if I sell/trade-in.
If the economy and finances were different, I usually wouldn't bother. However, if you've maintained the vehicle and know its history you should have a good idea of the reliability of your vehicle. There's also many other companies out there offering plans which may or may not be better and more affordable.

I've taken extended warranties in the past. some I have made out on, while others were not even used.
I've never heard of one with a $200 deductible though, as retrolled has said. If there is even a deductible, the most I've ever seen is usually $50 or maybe $100 tops (and that's usually only if it's through a second party).
I just think it all depends on your financial situation, or personal abilties to fix problems should they arise.
also, warranties are like car prices. you can always talk them down in price. If you don't know much about cars, go for it, but don't pay that price

So does that buy you a total of 8 years/76k miles or 2 years/4k miles (inclusive or exclusive of factory warrantee)? If it's the former, and if they cover the things that actually break as in the original factory warrantee, then it's a remarkable deal.
