Fog light retention

I have had my passenger-side front fog lamp knocked out by hitting a bale of hay. It was replaced. I then hit it with an empty plastic bucket. This time, it still worked and wasn't damaged. It was just sitting inside the wheel well. However, body shop told me just to push it back in until it "clicked." I heard no clock, and it's just sitting there with almost no effort needed to push it out again. I think I see some kind of soft, rubbery liner around the outside of the driver-side fog lamp, which has remained totally undisturbed the whole time. Am I missing something here?

The fogs are just held in by plastic tabs. If you dont hear a click, the tabs are either broken or bent.

the mounting is very weak. Mine does not have fog lamps but one of the plastic blanks that cover the holes got pushed out the same way. After a considerable time futzing with it i just abandoned it inside the bumper

Would it be possible to use some hot melt glue to hold it in place. You would, of course have to be careful with alignment, since a 're-do' would be difficult.

When in doubt, duct tape.

plastic tab

The body shop at the dealer had to bend the whole bumper to get it to snap into place. However, that did the job.
