CCK-most newer scan tools come with CAN as well as some slightly older ones. I have an slightly older ACTRON that has CAN as well as the below Equus 3130 that I bought from Pep Boys on some wacky special a couple of years ago for $125. I keep the actron in my car and the equus at home.

Yeah, I know a lot of them have both. In fact, most that have CAN are OBDII compatible, but not all OBDII are CAN compatible. I just want to clarify that, so no one would buy just an OBDII.

Dealer is replacing the fuel pump. No charge, under 'drive train' warranty. Gave us a free rental while the work is being done. I will let you know how it all goes.

 

Apparently there is a small valve which prevents the fuel from returning to the fuel tank when the engine is turned off. This valve failed.
Replaced pump and valve and all is now well.
Cost me $0.00.

My OBDII scanner works on my 2007 HHR LS. Every time, no problem. What is CAN anyway?

 

I just googled my own question. OBD is a generic shorthand for On-Board Diagnostics, the Roman numeral II is for the improved version, and CAN (Controller Area Network) largely has to do with communication protocols. Therefore, CAN is an enhanced version of the OBD system. Same connector, different way of talking.
