Gas cap

Gas cap
So about two months ago I got the "CHECK GAS CAP" warning on my HHR. I checked it out and sure enough the gasket was old and worn and dried out. So I got a new one and for a day or so I didn't get the warning. Then it's been coming back on intermittently. Some days it comes on, others it doesn't. Anybody else have this issue and what did you do?

Yes I like my letters up & correct as well, or I can't sleep good.. LOL But after the 2 clicks, mine is locked & I can spin it 'freely' backwards to get the letters up.
Yes it is a lock aftermarket gas cap.

Yes, but which letters?
I still have a P0442 on my ‘11 2.2. Replacing the gas cap didn’t help. Trying to get it to someone to smoke test it, because it seems pointless to try to find a vapor leak I can’t even smell and I don’t want to throw parts at it. The only inconvenience is that the remote start won’t work unless I clear the codes, but that only lasts 3-6 days, and Winter’s coming.

Check a few things, at no charge, the purge valve under the hood , should be in closed position so you shouldn’t be able to blow air through it in either direction.
code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system Faulty vent o-ring seal Defective vent valve Defective purge valve Defective leak detection pump
