key entry sounds alarm

When I do a key entry on my HHR the horn alarm sounds.
Any suggestions on how to prevent the horn alarm from sounding when I use the key?

If you lock the door with the fob or the electronic button then unlock it with the key it is designed to set the alarm. Solution is to use the fob to unlock.

RTFM; free digital copy via link in my sig.

I bought a battery for the FOB and the FOB programming device; but evidently the battery was bad (sitting on the shelf too long) and the FOB fails to work on occasion. So I have to use the key to enter.

This forum is great!!!

Have you tried a new battery yet in the new fob.

If the FOB is intermittent it could need the contacts cleaned... Pencil eraser on the gold circuit board contacts, then rubbing alcohol on the black rubber bits. I clean the gold contacts with the alcohol also before putting it back together.

Another known weak point is the solder joints that hold the battery retainer in place... If you know how to solder this is an easy fix too... Add a new battery and it's good as new.

2009, the only way to arm the alarm system, is with the fob.
