Puce is a color that is not green. That first sentence just makes no sense.

Let’s go with typographic error, the green puck? Or green piece.

They're the ones trying to save the whales, right?

Close. Greenpeace. One word. A bit more than saving whales. Have a look.

I'm thinking about going to the drawing board (literally, I still have one, even tho I don't use it or CAD either much anymore) and try to design a solution for spun cage nuts. Anyone have any thoughts as why a cage nut was used in the first place?

It’s inexpensive.
fastsuv came up with a good solution, and it worked bolt , washer then nut.

Yeah, but so is a weld nut. Someone thought it needed to float. I don't see the need, unless they thought they couldn't hold the tolerance to the front guide holes well enough to avoid assembly problems.

Gotta look that up. I was thinking just a strategically shaped tapping plate that would slide in place and can't rotate no matter what, no weld required. But I've never had to deal with this so I don't know the territory. Also not used to having no reference drawing to work from.

A slide in plate with a nut welded to it would work.

I like that. Lighter, and might be easier to install.
