In my 2011 2LT that had 28,000 miles on it when I bought it I immediately changed the oil and put in reg. M1 5/30
At approx. 44,000 I changed to Pennzoil Full Synthetic 5/30.
The engine just seams to be a little quieter.
After driving with it, I was surprised that I no longer had the intermittent cold startup rattle that has been in all of the 10 HHR's I have owned.
To this day it has disappeared completely and I have 59,000 miles, some in the winter with colder temp starts..

Also, I am still with Whopper on the oil changes. Every 3000 miles with an AC Filter.
I also shower often ......But use a biodegradable neutral PH bar soap .and Medium Cool water.

I've been using Mobil1 0w40 in everything for years. It's Dexos2 and am a fan of the 0w in cold startup and warm up since I do a fair bit of stop/start driving
130k miles with no startup noises so far. The 40 helps in the crazy hot temps here for most of the year.

I guess I'll comment......

Typical opinion comment, no facts attached. And as usual, some totally false statements.

30 years ago, one of our competitors tried Mobil 1, in his 358 cu in modified dirt race car, it blew up during hot laps even before the qualifying races. Out of the oil dripped a gooey mess like half gelled jello! Well, everyone was shocked and it wasn’t long before the Mobil 1 was claimed to be the major problem!
It turned out the engine was tossed together that afternoon and it was very plausible and possible that a rod cap fastener or two weren’t torqued correctly and the intake manifold had an internal coolant passage leak into the oil sump, the hot coolant and synthetic oil didn’t like each other and gelled.
To this day that team do not run Mobil 1 in their race cars.

Thats one case where the 15w-40 might actually be a good idea. Otherwise, Im in the 5w-30 camp for our trucklets, as per the manual.

Good old Oil Threads they never die lol. And always someone saying Synthetic is snake oil :O !
I use Synthetic in my HHR,Truck and Motorcycles And I change at 5/6k . Overkill yes it is but IMO cheap insurance and make me feel good !
Is it better ? Better Thermal Breakdown and when I switched I noticed my oil was cleaner when changed .Not so dark looking more clear like newer oil
From all have read Yes it isbetter

I think that was posted just to get a rise out of everyone.

That said, I decided a number of years back to try synthetic in my old 2008 GMC 5.3. It was over 100k in it by that time and was making all the typical 5.3 noises. Synthetic quieted it down right away. That's what sold me on synthetic.

My wife's 2016 Encore with a 1.4 turbo requires synthetic. Oddly enough, it's 5w-30.
