Manifold leak is a remote possibility.
If the insurance will cover the manifold they should cover the flex pipe, it is part of the cat, might even be covered by the mfg emission warranty check for your specific car years/mileage.
I wish I had a dollar for every time someone denied the possibility of a cracked flex pipe, and turned up replacing it.
That and hubs. I'd be a freakin' millionaire!

Yeah donbrew you're right, and I didn't remember you mentioning the manifold. Sorry. Regardless, I'm not denying a cracked flex pipe but since my face was 6 inches from it with engine running, I just wasn't hearing it. Sounded like it was then coming from up towards the manifold from there unless the noise I hear isn't an exhaust leak at all. I will just have to take it in to the shop now in order to use the warranty that it has.
