oil change length
i usually do the 3 month of 5,000km oil change but this time I wanted to go by what the DIC oil told me since everytime the 3month/5000km came the DIC would still say like 50-60% on oil life...
so its been over 3 months and over 5000kms and the DIC is showing 51% on oil life..should i keep going with the DIC or just do an oil change (it is winter over here and i use synthetic)

There will be argument as there has been in ALL of the PREVIOUS threads on this subject (search tool at the top right). The DIC will trigger at about 12,000 miles, whatever that comes to in Canadian.

Anytime between 100---0%. Whatever makes you happy.
There is soooo many opinions on this subject. It will give you a headache trying to read all the previous discussions on this.
Me personally. 5,000 miles. DIC is usually around 55%.

Just purchased a 2006 HHR W/59,000, I have aprox, 1,000 on it with oil life showing 82%, looks like it's going to be 5,000. Thinking on changing at around 3/4k to Mobil1.
FWIW..On a 2002 GMC Envoy I used to own, oil change light came on at around 12,000 with Mobil1.
Great site, got a lot of info before I purchased my HHR LT

You did everything right. Continue to do so.
I'm doing an oil change this:
In April - Synthetic 10W-40.
In October - Synthetic 5W-30 or 0W-30.
Is independent of the milage, provided that the milage to 8,000 km (5,000 miles). Loss of 3$ - 5$ per premature oil change - it is a trifle compared to the long life engine.
My friend told me about his father. His father worked as a driver in the garage of the governor. The garage was always a surplus of motor oil and other parts. In the days when there were no trips, drivers missed. Out of boredom, they changed the oil in the engine, just to pass the time. So, the car body can rust but the engine was clean and shiny as the assembly line. This was clear when disassembling the engine.

no real need to change viscosity anymore as 5wt30 will work year round..so will 0w30 if your in a really cold climate..these oils flow quite well at most temperatures...the old dino oils in older engines would req wt changes due to the climates because they were not as temperature versatile as they are now..big improvements have come along in the past bunch a years...a heavier wt oil will only cause the eng to work harder, the oil pump and bearing clearances dictate this. Its like the difference between squeezing a nerf ball and a tennis ball, it makes the oil pump work alot harder trying to squeeze the heavier oil thru the gears..once upon a time a heavier oil was needed to handle the heat so it wouldnt break down..syn oil handles this much better so it can be of lighter weight and free up eng rotation.
