I KNOW I'm going to hurt some people's feelings with this comment..........

Since I have NEVER had a crushed filter in any vehicle that requires the cartridge filter, I'm going to say.....I still think it is faulty installation by whoever changes the oil/filter.

Oh, and the OEM AC delco filter can also be had at AutoZone for about the same price as Sleeper quoted. If they don't have it, have the store manager order it. I buy 3 at a time. Which makes the manager very happy.

Woody-

I've not had that experience either. they come out good..
fwiw: the 96 BMW Z-3 we had for 10 yrs has the same cartridge filter style & never a problem with those either.

But I do lube the O-rings & canister internal housing well with fresh M1....

My thinking is since not every car does this that perhaps the machining tolerances and filter maunfacture tolerances may be the cause ( filter too tall or block not deep enough..blocks are mass produced, the cutters wear, it only takes a few thousanths to make a difference )..the cap can only go on so far. Its o ringed so it doesn't need major torque..they get oiled before install...the cap is tight coming off...o rings have a tendency to stick over many heat cycles..if the filter is being crushed its a mechanical issue...if its coming out then its an o ring issue.. I change my oil per the DIC so it sees 10k miles.
As another note..changed both cars oil today and the one I had in the LS did have the rotating top filter..the SS did not....different filters..so some of them do and some of them dont...

The only one I've ever seen was twisted on the way in and the car ran that way for over 5000 miles.

How can you see if it was twisted on the way in?
